Manoury | Beethoven Mendelssohn

Since the season 2015/16 Philippe Manoury works together very closely with François-Xavier Roth and the Gürzenich-Orchester in Cologne. In July 2018 the Gürzenich-Orchester premières his newest work »Saccades« – a fascinating concerto for flute and orchestra written for today's greatest flute virtuoso Emmanuel Pahud. The title »Saccades«, which in French means “jerks” or “jolts”, refers directly to the atmosphere of the finale: »At a particular point the flute spins out of control. It is impossible to stop. Like someone who is always talking, who moves from one thing to the next, that the only thing to do is to keep quiet and to let him finish.« Another highlight of the season 2017/18 was the 5th symphony by Beethoven. Like in Mendelssohn Bartholdy's »The Hebrides«, a programmatic background was also supposed in Beethoven's masterpiece.
