Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Sinfonie C-Dur KV 551 »Jupiter-Sinfonie«

  • Jacquelyn Wagner Soprano
  • Gürzenich-Orchester Köln
  • Alejo Pérez Conductor

“Jacquelyn Wagner deserves the crown – a moving Suor Angelica, superb in her highly refined expressions of emotion and pain, but always with effortless vocal beauty and sustained high tones as clear as a bell.” The American singer’s debut in the Puccini role at the Cologne Opera last year inspired not only the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger to hymns of praise. Since the young soprano is also a Mozart and Strauss specialist, her interpretation of the Four Last Songs is bound to earn similar acclaim.
Her musical partner is Alejo Pérez, who made a strong impression with the Gürzenich Orchestra in Wolfgang Rihm’s chamber opera Jakob Lenz this spring. The Argentinian, who came to conducting by way of composition, feels equally at home in the sound worlds of György Kurtág and Mozart. After three works expressing sorrow and farewell, he closes this concert with the Viennese classical composer’s celebrated “Jupiter” Symphony, a work of unsurpassed formal and stylistic mastery.
