Arnold Schönberg
Kammersinfonie für 15 Soloinstrumente op. 9
Pierre Boulez
»Notations« I–IV und VII
Anton Bruckner
Sinfonie Nr. 4 Es-Dur »Romantische«
- Gürzenich-Orchester Köln
- François-Xavier Roth Conductor
Pierre Boulez described his “Notations” for orchestra, which developed from five early piano miniatures, as “youthful pieces seen through today’s mirror”. It is programmatic that François-Xavier Roth has placed them on his first concert as Kapellmeister of the Gürzenich; after all, the composer played a decisive role in Roth’s own musical development. These short, masterfully orchestrated pieces are framed by two exceptional symphonies: Arnold Schönberg expanded to the utmost the limits of tonal composition in his Chamber Symphony for 15 solo instruments, a masterpiece of the early 20thcentury. Anton Bruckner’s “Romantic” is his very best-known symphony. The symphony concert 01 presents his 4th symphony in the 1878/80 version.
