»Le sacre du printemps«

  • Ranga Yogeshwar Narrator
  • Gürzenich-Orchester Köln
  • Markus Stenz Conductor and Narrator

In the midst of our world of change, a remarkable timelessness is revealed in many classical music works. Listeners leave a concert hall moved and happy, although they have heard music that is often several hundred years old. What accounts for the magic of a classical masterpiece? What happens to us when we hear this music? Ranga Yogeshwar and Markus Stenz look for the answers in the new concert series 'Classical Experiment' – a new opportunity for all listeners who are curious about classical music and willing to let themselves be seduced by it. This new concert format will be launched with a key work of the 20th century – Igor Stravinsky's ballet composition The Rite of Spring. Even today the work never fails to captivate audiences. Listeners experience a pagan ritual in which a young girl is chosen as a sacrifice to the god of spring and ultimately dances herself to death. The music Stravinsky composed for the ballet depicts the delicacy of spring and the frenzy of the pagan sacrificial ritual in sharp contrasts. During the first part of the concert, Ranga Yogeshwar, Markus Stenz and the Gürzenich Orchestra will delve into the work together with the audience. Important facets of the piece will be examined in detail, played and explained from various sides, with many moving, astonishing and novel aspects to discover. Following this introduction, the music will speak for itself after the interval, when listeners hear and experience the work in a concert atmosphere.
